yes, my loyalties turned: like my ankle

IC CHARACTERISTICS
CURRENT CANON POINT: After the novel version of Hannibal
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Starling, garden variety human, stands at 5'3", with pale skin and red-gold hair. She is slender, attractive in a homespun sort of way, with a small dark spot of burnt gunpowder high on her left cheek that most mistake for a beauty mark. Her hair reaches down past her shoulders, and she alternates between wearing it loose or up in a low ponytail. She dresses for comfort and utility, but cleans up very well given opportunity.
DEMEANOR: Straightforward and earnest, Clarice carries herself free of BS and can adapt her mannerisms to fit the tone of a situation. She comes across as approachable, and in tense situations if there is not already a clear person of authority, she will take point if needed.
ABILITIES: Keen smell, good memory, prize-winning marksmanship
MEDICAL INFORMATION: Peak physical condition, though she does have some scarring from minor duty injuries. Also, Clarice is currently under hypnosis. If she hears a crossbow string release when wound to a very specific pitch, the hypnosis will break. I do not expect this to come up, but if it does, I'll happily play it out.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Misogynists beware! Also, animal torture is right out. Starling herself has past involvement with serial killers, cannibals, and just about anything you'd expect to come up against in the F.B.I. I have an opt-out post for that right over here.
OTHER: As a former Behavioral Sciences agent, she can read some things about a person like an open book. OOCly I take her cues from emotes, and will never abuse this skill as a godmode.

IC PERMISSIONS
MENTAL: Yes
MIMICRY: Sure, could be fun, no one's ever tried. Her southern accent comes and goes, so have fun with that. :)
VIOLENCE: Starling is FBI-trained and armed. She will not shoot an ally, preferring to detain through any other means, but anyone without powers as an advantage may have their work cut out for them to beat her in a bare handed fight.
MAGIC: Let's discuss this one first, I would prefer to avoid crack situations.
DEBATE: Absolutely!!
OTHER / NOTES: Just the people-reading mentioned above!

Opt-Out

Thomas Harris is most infamous for having created Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter, and I realize that cannibalism is a triggering subject for some players. Also, since she was a member of the FBI for ten years of her life, Clarice has encountered several other troubling topics.

If you would like me to avoid certain subjects when tagging your character with Clarice, please leave them here! It is quite easy for me to work around most of the triggering topics in her canon in the right situations, and I am happy to do so! If anything beyond this comes up in the new series, I will add it as it airs.

Possible Triggering Subjects from Previous FBI Cases:
  • Child molestation

  • Serial murder

  • Flaying & scalping

  • Bugs - specifically moths

  • Cannibalism

  • Drug dealing/use

  • Kidnapping and/or torture

  • Cultism (she worked in the era of Waco, after all)

Possible Triggering Subjects from Her Own History:
  • Parent death

  • Animal slaughter

  • Misogyny/discrimination

  • Being stalked

  • Being drugged/hypnotized

If you need to feel me out for any other topics canon may cover, or discuss specific other triggers with me in privage, please don't hesitate to PM me or send me a private plurk or Discord message.

Differences in Novel Canon vs. Movie

Despite using Julianne Moore as a PB, who played Clarice Starling in the film version of Hannibal, I play her from the novel, which is far different and ends her character arc on a darker, "the antihero wins" sort of note. (Yes, I consider Hannibal Lecter an antihero, but that is an aside from this, though I'd be happy to debate it because I love being a book geek about these novels.)

This journal entry is mainly meant to highlight things which the film left out and/or changed, so that people who want to know Clarice can get by with the two films she appears in, but still track the very marked shift in her character development and mindset as of her played canonpoint.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Misogyny, Hypnotherapy, Cannibalism. Thomas Harris does not pull any punches in his writing, and I will be sharing excerpts directly from the text. Obviously, here there be spoilers.

It changes everything. It changes ME. )

I play Clarice Starling from a canon point where she has healed her past traumas, dealt with her anger, and is no longer an agent of the FBI, living a very luxurious life in Buenos Aires, Argentina alongside a still-at-large Hannibal Lecter, who has become not only her confidante but her lover. Canon does not make it clear whether or not she, too, now indulges in his hobby of hunting the "free-range rude" ... but I would not call it outside the realm of possibility on extreme occasions.
